Six new immigration programs that make life easier for international Ph.D. students, temporary workers, and French speakers currently reside in Canada to become permanent residents. Programs will start on May 6, 2021, and will stay open until November 5, 2021, or until the maximum number of applications, whichever comes first.
The IRCC has declared acceptance of up to 90,000 applications and an unlimited number of applications from French-speaking candidates. These applications can be divided as follows:
- 20,000 application places for temporary workers.
- 30,000 are available to temporary workers in other vital occupations.
- The remaining 40,000 places are international students who have recently graduated from a designated educational institution in Canada.
What are the new programs?
The new immigration programs are for candidates who are already living in Canada. The avenues are:
- Permanent Residence (PR) path for international Ph.D. students
- PR path for essential health workers
- PR path for important workers in other professions
- PR path for international doctoral students who speak French
- PR path for mainly French-speaking health workers
- PR Pathway for Key French-Speaking Workers in Other Professions
The last three of these programs are unlimited and will continue to accept applicants till November 5. Key health workers include nurses, doctors, nutritionists, and physiotherapists. Other professions are Kass plumbers, builders, plumbers, and other artisans.
Candidates for all tracks must be legally employed in Canada at the time of application. You must also meet the minimum language and admissibility requirements. You must not intend to live in Quebec either.
